The Journal report noted that the drug maker had said in an exclusive statement that the drugs had been used to treat erectile dysfunction. That statement is the latest step in a plan to try out Viagra, the drug maker had announced last week, and Pfizer has said it is not interested in the drug.
But it said that “the potential benefits of Viagra are modest, and that it may be used by patients who need it to treat their condition.”
The Journal report also said that it is looking into other forms of the drug, including generics, because “there is an increased likelihood that other treatments will be less effective.”
The drug maker, which has been in talks with Pfizer about its drug, has yet to respond to an outside agency.
Pfizer, which makes Viagra, said in an interview that the company has “no plans” to stop selling Viagra, but said the drug maker will continue to make its product.
It also said that the company is working with other pharmaceutical companies to bring in drugs that can treat erectile dysfunction.
And it said that Pfizer will work with companies like Merck and Sanofi to expand its business in the wake of Viagra’s approval. Merck, which owns the drugmaker, said that it expects to make Viagra in the second half of next year, and that the company will make another drug that would treat erectile dysfunction in the coming months, such as sildenafil citrate.
“We have a lot of exciting news about Viagra,” said Jim P. Johnson, a spokesman for the pharmaceutical giant. “We have been in discussions with the pharmaceutical company about Viagra, and the company is looking forward to continuing to expand its business in the coming months.”
Pfizer, which is still buying the drugmaker to make Viagra, said that the drugmaker has decided not to pursue a merger. And it is not certain whether Pfizer will be involved in any legal proceedings against the drugmaker.

LAS VEGAS (VETOR.com) -- A generic drug to treat erectile dysfunction has been approved by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration and will be available to buy online from its online pharmacy.
The prescription drug, Viagra Connect, is the generic version of Pfizer's erectile dysfunction drug Viagra.
"This is a very important approval for our business and we look forward to receiving your shipment of the Viagra product at the end of the month," said Janet Woodcock, Pfizer's vice president of pharmacy operations.
Pfizer will mail the product to customers through its mail order pharmacy, which is part of the pharmaceutical giant's distribution chain. The generic product will be dispensed by a licensed pharmacy in the United States.
